Saves Costs by Not Doing Maintenance. Press Releases
The above airline is of course fictitious and would not have many customers. We expect aircraft we fly on to be well maintained and not drop out of the sky. Airlines in fact have very strict maintenance schedules and use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) software to control all of their maintenance operations.
CMMS, which is also known as Enterprise Asset Management, is a software package which contains a central database of information about an enterprise’s maintenance operations. This information is used to help maintenance staff do their jobs more effectively as all equipment related data including inventory, costs, resources and service history is stored in one place. Besides airlines, CMMS is used in a wide range of industries including manufacturing, property management, hotels, banks and hospitals.
However most companies still manage their equipment and machinery reactively, dealing with failure when it occurs resulting in a loss of productivity. This approach in fact increases costs.
